Careers at Auto Gator

Auto Gator has been a fixture in the Northern California automotive community since 1981. We are a licensed California auto dealer and dismantler operating from our 40-acre facility in Roseville, and we have built our reputation on quality parts, honest service, and a team that takes real pride in what they do. If you are looking for a stable, hands-on career in the automotive industry, we want to hear from you.

Why Work at Auto Gator?

The auto dismantling and recycling industry is one of the most essential — and often overlooked — sectors of the automotive world. Every year, millions of vehicles reach the end of their road life, and facilities like ours ensure that usable parts are recovered, tested, and returned to service rather than ending up in a landfill. Working at Auto Gator means contributing to a genuinely sustainable industry while building real, transferable skills.

Our team is made up of people who know vehicles inside and out — from the mechanics who evaluate incoming inventory to the sales staff who help customers find exactly the right part. We are a mid-sized, family-oriented operation, which means you are not a number here. Advancement is real, training is hands-on, and the work is never the same day twice.

About the Auto Dismantling Industry

Auto dismantling — also called automotive recycling — is a skilled trade that sits at the intersection of mechanical knowledge, logistics, customer service, and environmental stewardship. The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) estimates that the automotive recycling industry recycles approximately 12 million vehicles per year in North America, making it one of the largest recycling industries on the continent.

Careers in this field range from hands-on yard and parts roles to inventory management, sales, and operations. Many of our team members came to us with general mechanical backgrounds and developed specialized expertise in dismantling, parts identification, and inventory systems on the job. The industry also offers strong long-term stability — as long as vehicles are on the road, quality used parts will be in demand.

Types of Roles at Auto Gator

While specific openings vary, our operation typically employs people across several functional areas. Below is a general overview of the kinds of roles that exist at a facility like ours. When positions are open, we will post them here and accept applications by email.

Parts & Yard Operations

These roles involve the physical work of dismantling vehicles, pulling parts, organizing inventory, and maintaining the yard. Experience with hand tools and basic automotive knowledge is valued. A strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions are essential. We are willing to train motivated candidates who demonstrate the right attitude.

Parts Sales & Customer Service

Our parts sales team works directly with customers — retail buyers, repair shops, body shops, and online purchasers — to identify and source the right components. Strong communication skills, basic computer proficiency, and an interest in vehicles are important. Experience with parts lookup systems or automotive retail is a plus, but not required for entry-level positions.

Repairable Vehicle Sales

Auto Gator sells repairable and salvage-title vehicles to dealers, rebuilders, and the general public. Staff in this area assist customers in evaluating vehicles, processing paperwork, and managing the lot. A California dealer license or willingness to obtain one may be required for certain roles. Customer service experience and comfort working with vehicle titles and documentation are helpful.

Vehicle Acquisition & Buying

We purchase vehicles directly from the public through our cash-for-cars program. Roles in this area involve evaluating vehicles, making offers, coordinating pickup logistics, and handling title transfers. Attention to detail, negotiation skills, and knowledge of vehicle values are key competencies.

Inventory, Data & Administration

Behind the scenes, our operation depends on accurate inventory management, data entry, and administrative support. These roles involve working with our inventory management systems, processing invoices, managing online listings, and supporting day-to-day operations. Computer proficiency and organizational skills are essential.

What We Look For

Regardless of the specific role, the qualities we value most in candidates are consistent: reliability, a strong work ethic, a professional attitude, and a genuine willingness to learn. Auto Gator is an equal opportunity employer. All positions require passing a background check, and pre-employment drug testing is required. We are a drug-free workplace.

Bilingual candidates — particularly those fluent in Spanish or Russian — are always welcome, as we serve a diverse customer base across Northern California.
